NORTHSIDE FALCONS WIN SPLENDORA HIGH SCHOOL TOURNAMENT!
Solid baserunning and timely hitting helped the Falcons hold off the HCYA Eagles on Saturday to capture the championship at the 2010 Splendora Wildcat Tournament. On Thursday, Jeremiah O'Neal pitched a shut out against Liberty High. He was helped out by excellent hitting throughout the lineup. On Friday, Andrew Brockner started on the mound for the Falcons and pitched five strong innings against a very good Corrigan team. Brockner also helped out his own cause with several key hits. Chase Adams came in to relieve and closed out the game for his first save of the year. Ryan Wojcik pitched six solid innings on Saturday for the win against HCYA. Nick Bradney closed out that game in the top of the seventh as the Falcons improved their season record to 5-0, their best start ever. The Falcons defense was fairly solid throughout the tournament, with several defensive gems, including two double-plays in the championship game. Combined with reliable hitting and stellar pitching performances, the Falcons were able to improve on last year's 2nd place finish to gain their first tournament win of this early 2010 season.

FALCONS HOLD OFF HOST DIBOLL WIN 14-TEAM LUMBERJACK TOURNAMENT!
Sophomore Andrew Brockner had two wins on Saturday as the Northside Falcons capped off a grueling 3-day, 7-game tournament in Central and Diboll. Brockner started the day at 10:45 am by shutting down Central Heights as the Falcons bats came alive in a 14-1 win. The Falcons bats continued to sizzle as Junior Caleb Martin took the mound and followed suit with an excellent pitching performance of his own, silencing Alto in a 14-2 win that sent the Falcons to the championship game. After a delayed start, the Falcons took a huge lead against Diboll only to see it begin to crumble in the late innings. Senior Ryan Wojcik closed out that game as defensive gems by Freshman Chase Adams and others reversed the momentum, placing it squarely back in the Falcons camp. The Falcons went on to win 14-6 in a game that lasted until 11:00 pm, ending the longest single day of baseball in Falcons history.
On Thursday, the Falcons split with a win over 5A Lufkin's JV squad, followed by an error-filled loss to 3A Tarkington. They split again on Friday, basically repeating their Thursday performance, albeit against different teams (Pollok Central and Diboll). However, their 2-2 record in pool play was just enough to qualify them for the #3 seed in Saturday's single-elimination bracket, setting the stage for the fine piching and hitting performances that would carry them to the championship.
Seniors Austin Juneau and Jeremiah O'Neal combined with Brockner to lead the team in hits over the long weekend and Wojcik had three home runs, two in the game against Central.

FALCONS SWEEP DRAGONS!
Andrew Brockner and Jeremiah O'Neal pitched back-to-back shutouts as the Falcons swept the John Cooper Varsity team 9-0 and 3-0. Brockner threw a one-hitter and helped his own cause with a three-run monster homerun in the sixth inning. Cooper ace Chris Demetriades started for the Dragons in the second game and held the Falcons to three runs (only one earned). But that was all the Falcons would need as Jeremiah O'Neal pitched a two-hitter with 11 Ks for the win.
